Competitive Rowing Program
This is a program for Rowers from ages 13 to 23 who have learned the basics of rowing and are ready to compete in rowing regattas.
Participants will develop physical fitness and learn about the Rules of Racing. When spring arrives on the Kaministiquia River they will train for four summer regattas of the Northwest International Rowing Association (NWIRA):
Thunder Bay Sprints Regatta
Duluth Invitational Regatta
Kenora Tops and Bottoms Regatta
NWIRA Championship Regatta
Rowers unable to attend a regatta should notify the coach at the start of the season to allow other team members the opportunity to train as a crew.
Some rowers may wish to compete in additional regattas and are encouraged to do so. Some of these regattas include:
CSSRA Championship Regatta (St Catharines ON)
Royal Canadian Henley Regatta (St Catharines ON)

Travel and Accommodation to Regattas
Arrangements for travel and accommodations are the responsibility of each rower. TBRC will book blocks of rooms if possible and try to facilitate travel arrangements and carpooling. Make sure you have a valid passport for travel to the USA! Rowers under the age of 18 who are not travelling with both parents should bring one of the following completed forms for crossing the border:
Consent Form - Non-Parent accompanying Minor; or
Consent Form - One Parent accompanying Minor.
Regatta Costs
Fees for regattas, approximately $50/ competitor, are in addition to TBRC program fees. There is also a ‘per seat’ cost for every race entered in a Canadian Regatta. Seat fees - in the $6 - $8 range - are set every year by Rowing Canada and Row Ontario. Look for Regatta information packages on our Events page, usually available 2 weeks prior to each regatta.
