Winter training is on
Hello Rowers!
It’s time! The 2025 winter erg workout sessions are starting this Thursday, January 16th at 6:30PM at the Canada Games Complex!
What? - Twice weekly indoor rowing workouts
Where? - The Canada Games Complex in the Saskatchewan Room
Why? - We’ll be faster and stronger on the water this season if we start now!
When? - Tuesdays at 6:30PM and Saturdays at 10:30AM. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
This program at the Complex is new to us so please bear with us on a few growing pains.
We have moved all 12 of the Club’s ergs into the Saskatchewan Room (first floor next to the squash courts) and we’ve secured two weekly times for our workouts. We can expand to more workout sessions if we are oversubscribed of if some groups would like to arrange for different times. Here are some details of the workouts:
Workouts are 1 hour long and will be created by a TBRC coach. Workouts will be varied and focus on different elements but will be consistently as challenging as you make them!
A group leader will be at every time and will guide the rowers through the workout. Please be punctual with your arrival at the Saskatchewan room 10 minutes before the start time. We will have to line up the ergs before starting and then put them away after the workout.
You will have full access to the Complex’s facilities so you can warm up on the track or in the fitness rooms if you'd like.
There is no cost for the workouts but you will have to pay admission fees to the complex if you aren’t already a member. General Admission costs are detailed here.
You can sign up for workout times in advance. We have 12 ergs and may limit attendance to 12 rowers per workout. If we find that demand is higher, we will add more workout sessions.
Sign ups for the next two weeks are available here.
If space is a problem, we’ll be restricting access first to club members who intend to row in a 2025 program beyond a Learn To Row.
We’ll tune up our process quickly after the first several sessions. We intend to run this program until the ice on the Kam River is out. Spread the word: we’ll be hosting some “learn to Indoor Row” sessions and we’re working on a Thunder Bay Indoor Rowing Championship event (2k)!
Thanks, I’m looking forward to being in the pain cave with 11 other rowers.
